I am an Associate Professor at the Department of Geography of the University of the Philippines Diliman, Philippines. I have a PhD in Geography and Spatial Planning and a master’s degree in Social Sciences and Humanities. My professional specialties include disaster risk reduction and management, climate change adaptation and mapping (i.e., cartography, geographic information system). I am skilled in community work and conduct of participatory methods and tools involving different stakeholders and community members particularly the marginalized sectors (i.e., women, older people, ethnic minorities, etc.). I am experienced in research writing and conduct of qualitative and quantitative methods. My fieldwork experiences include countries such as The Philippines, France, Indonesia, and Cape Verde. I have been involved in research projects related to Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation (DRR-CCA) funded by local and international NGOs and institutions (i.e. USAID, Asian Development Bank, UNICEF, Save The Children, GIZ, Oxford Policy Management, and several NGOs in the Philippines). My most recent professional engagement was as DRR-Resilience Specialist for the USAID-SURGE Project (Strengthening Urban Resilience for Growth with Equity), a flagship project of USAID on urban resilience in the Philippines.
